The People’s Choice, The People’s Voice

My leadership centers on placing people first and on advocating for equitable policies that improve the conditions for all families and communities in District 2 to thrive.

As a resident of Santa Fe and public servant for 35 years, I will continue to fight for investments in our community safety and infrastructure, protecting our environment, increasing affordable housing opportunities and increasing access to mental health and health care.

When it comes to investments in infrastructure, clean water is a priority and now, more than ever, District 2 deserves transparency about water usage and testing of our drinking water.

  • We also need intergovernmental cooperation to assure actions are taken to protect our water sources, create safe side walks and roads and assure all District 2 residents have access to parks.

  • As an expert in civic engagement in local policy making, I will assure that community voices are central when the county considers issues impacting financial, water and land resource allocation in District 2 through ordinances on redistricting and decisions regarding annexation.

  • I would prioritize the county's preparedness to respond to emergencies like pandemics, natural disasters such as the devastating impacts of fires and threats to water related hazards and contamination.  Our emergency responders, health workers, fire fighters, law enforcement and mobile command units need to be adequately resourced and trained.

I pledge to protect the environment and natural resources for our current and future generations.

  • As your commissioner, I will assure that local government be a responsible steward of our lands.

  • I will foster coordination between the county, city, state and federal government and environmental protection groups (i.e. Sierra Club and Agua Fria Community Water System Association) to assure that we take holistic land use and water management planning efforts.

  • This includes collaboratively addressing water supply sustainability, urban growth management, and land development impacts (i.e. Comexico mining activity in the headwaters of the Pecos River) on natural resources and open spaces.

We face a housing crisis with rents and mortgage interest rates high, housing supply limited and rise in homelessness.

  • As County Commissioner, I will work to find solutions to the rising costs of homes, increased mortgage interest rates and high rentals, especially for our District 2 communities who are facing job insecurity and low wage work.

  • I will assure that Santa Fe County’s Affordable Housing Program is successfully implemented so that we increase affordable housing opportunities to individuals, seniors and families through down payment assistance, roof repair and replacement, and foreclosure prevention.

  • I will work with our city, non-profits, faith community, neighborhood associations and those with the lived experiences to find solutions to homelessness in our Santa Fe region.

Martin Luther King Jr. stated that “access to health care is the unfinished business of the civil rights movement.

  • For 35 years, I’ve championed health equity priorities locally, statewide and nationally such as Medicaid expansion for low income families and persons living with disabilities, increased insurance coverage for small businesses and workers and growing our health care workforce.

  • As County Commissioner and drawing from my direct experience as a licensed behavioral health provider, I will work with our county Health Policy Planning Committee to assure the continued success of our county behavioral health services like the La Sala Center (crisis services). I also support suicide prevention programs for high risks youth including LGBTQI+ and youth of color and increasing mental health treatment for our veterans, active military service members and emergency responders by giving them the care they need. I promote treatment over criminalization for persons suffering with addictions.

  • I will be a champion for a responsive local public health system including keeping the doors open for our community health centers and expanding the use of navigators (promotores de salud) who help connect people to food, senior services and other resources.
